Facts About SAWFISH

Sawfish are critically endangered rays with a distinctive long, flat snout edged with tooth-like structures called rostral teeth. These ancient creatures use their saw-like snout to detect electrical signals from prey and to slash through schools of fish. Found in tropical and subtropical waters, sawfish have declined dramatically due to habitat loss and fishing nets that entangle their vulnerable rostrums. Only a handful of species remain, making conservation efforts essential to prevent their extinction. These remarkable animals have existed for over 100 million years, but without protection, they may not survive the next century.
