HAMMERHEAD SHARK
Facts About Hammerhead Shark
The hammerhead shark's distinctive head shape, called a rostrum, spreads its sensory organs across a wider area. This unique design allows it to detect electrical signals from prey buried in the ocean floor more effectively than other shark species.
These sharks are found in tropical and temperate waters around the world, often swimming in schools during the day and hunting alone at night. They primarily feed on stingrays, fish, and smaller sharks.
Hammerheads can grow between 4 and 20 feet long depending on the species. The great hammerhead is the largest, while the bonnethead is the smallest. Despite their intimidating appearance, most hammerhead species are not considered a significant threat to humans.
