BORNEAN ORANGUTAN
Facts About BORNEAN ORANGUTAN
The Bornean orangutan is one of our closest living relatives, sharing approximately 97% of our DNA. These intelligent great apes are native to the rainforests of Borneo and are known for their remarkable problem-solving abilities and tool use in the wild. Bornean orangutans are highly arboreal, spending most of their lives in the forest canopy where they build new sleeping nests each night. They play a crucial role in their ecosystem as seed dispersers, helping to maintain the health and diversity of the rainforest. Sadly, these magnificent creatures are critically endangered due to habitat loss from deforestation, with their population declining significantly over the past few decades. Conservation efforts are essential to protect their remaining populations and ensure their survival for future generations.
